Support from DFN Project SEARCH: From College to Bus Driver
After leaving college, I was unsure about my next steps. Although I had always aspired to be a bus or train driver, I didn't have a driving license and felt this career path was out of reach. I discovered DFN Project SEARCH and was excited to be accepted onto their scheme.
My first placement was in the Medical Engineering Department, where I learned to repair various medical machines. For my second placement, I worked in a Pharmacy, and this was extended to include a third placement there. Following my time with DFN Project SEARCH, they arranged a meeting with Job Centre Plus coaches. They spoke to Stagecoach about my dream of becoming a bus driver, which led to a recommendation to apply for a position there.
Although I was no longer an intern, the job coaches continued to support me throughout the application process. They helped me prepare for several tests, which I successfully passed. I am now awaiting my medical assessment before starting Stagecoach's training scheme. DFN Project SEARCH has taught me the importance of perseverance and not giving up on my goals.
